Why eco pur polyurethane sealant?

23/09/2008

Problems with availability of polysulphide polymers for manufacturing of Thiokol sealants towards the end of the 1990s, limitations in deliveries of poly-BD component for PU sealants two years ago, and a constant increase in prices of oil derivatives, make us look for new solutions in manufacturing of sealants for insulating glass.
Since the second half of the 1990s, eco in company, previously called eco instruments, has been making many efforts to work out alternative technological solutions for sealants.
A group of chemists and production engineers supervised by Zygmunt Wirpsza, professor, has worked out numerous recipes of sealants for insulating glass manufacturing.
Thanks to their work, a new production line making the two-component PU sealant for insulating glass was opened in spring 2007.
Our sealan eco pur is innovative because of its:
1. Polymer base
2. Catalyst system
3. Plasticizers
4. Rheology modifiers
What differs it from other PU sealants is the fact that the eco pur polymer base is composed of a mixture of polyether polyols responsible for the polyurethane flexible polyurethane segment.
Thanks to application of this kind of products, we can be independent from fluctuations of poly-BD supply on the market because our polyether polyols form a basis for numerous other PU applications such as flexible foams, elastomers, varnishes, and adhesives.
A catalyst system in our sealant does not contain toxic compounds of heavy metals such as mercury, tin or organic catalysts based on amino compounds which frequently cause allergic reactions while in contact with the sealant.
Plasticizers used in the sealant eco pur may be phthalate free. What is more, some kinds of plasticizers are allowed to enter into contact with food.
Rheology modifiers that we use enable us to significantly minimize the working pressure of hydraulic systems in sealing robots. Thanks to that the dosing system is less loaded and the yield of sealing robots, which apply the mixed sealant on the glass, remains unchanged.
During quality control made in our manufacturing plant parameters specified in the norm EN 1279-6 are checked as well as those important from our clients’ point of view such as viscosity or sagging of the sealant.
The sealant eco pur has been checked to be in accordance with the standard EN 1279 p. 2, 3, 4. What is more, we have been making a comparative analysis of sealants on the basis of standards for the analysis of plastics (gas and water diffusion).
The company eco in has been working on the basis of quality management guidelines in accordance with ISO 9001/2000. The manufacturing of the sealant eco pur will be supervised by an independent institute ift Rosenheim.
Towards the end of 2008, the planned production rate of manufacturing systems will reach about 8 million litres of the sealant yearly.
