Symposium / GTL
Interesting lectures and presentations on the solar energy theme were on offer in the top-ranking support programme at glasstec 2008.
This was the case for example at the specialist symposium held within the framework of the glass technology live special show, which attracted over 5,500 participants. For the first time two of the total of five conference days were exclusively devoted to the themes of photo-voltaic and solar thermal energy. In this connection, the themes covered include solar glass, solar modules and methods of building integration.
The international Architects’ Conference on the theme of facade technology entitled "Transparency! Glass and Facade technology" covered a wide range of exciting contents connected with all aspects of the solar energy theme. Here renowned architects, engineers, planners and facade builders provided information about the latest developments in the areas of design, engineering, research and climate design.

Solar at glasstec
In 2008 the Special Show 'glass technology live' in Hall 11 is dedicated primarily to the focal themes climate protection and energy efficiency. The latest products, technologies and research results on topics like thermal insulation, solar protection, photovoltaics and solar thermal systems are showcased here.
Glassy Bridges and Energetic Facades
Glass and architecture share the same stage - provided by the special show glass technology live. In hall 11, visitors admire glass objects in amazing dimensions. Also higher demands on glass facades are an important topic of the special show in order to enable glass and new technologies to contribute to gaining energy in future.
Trend Report: Solar Technology
Not long ago visionary researchers of solar cells were not always taken very seriously. The technology was deemed too inefficient as well as too costly, observers argued. However, this is about to change with solar panels increasingly becoming an attractive source of energy. This is so because of rising energy costs, improved cost-efficiency rates of solar-powered units and falling prices for electricity- and heat-producing solar collectors per square meter.
