Float Glass Stress Scanners

The SCA-1500 on-line float glass stress scanner automatically measures and reports residual stress across the glass ribbon at the cold end of the float line. It features user-friendly PC-based operation, and requires no special operator skills or training. Field-proven technology and reliability have made the SCA-1500 the choice of the world's leading primary glass manufacturers.

Measures an unlimited range of measured retardation with resolution of 1 nm (15 psi in 1/8-inch glass)
Capable of measuring retardation in materials as hot as 1000˚ C
Speed of response (100 milliseconds) exceeds all other glass stress measuring instruments
Displays graphs and tables of total stress, thermally induced (temporary) stress, permanent  stress, or all three
Provides data formats for off-line storage and analysis

GES-100 Edge-Stress Meter

The GES-100 Edge-Stress Meters are light, portable, battery-operated instruments that are specially designed to measure edge stress in annealed, heat-strengthened, and tempered glass. These instruments are used for non-destructive, precision measurement in accordance with ASTM test method C-1279. GES-100 Edge Stress Meters can be used on both flat and curved glass.

Models include:

GES-100 Edge-Stress Meter
Includes a double-wedge compensator, generally used for tempered glass applications.

GES-100-MWA Edge-Stress Meter
General-purpose instrument includes a single-wedge compensator.

GES-100-MWA-HS High Sensitivity Edge-Stress Meter Special model for annealed glass measurement or other low-stress applications where greater measurement sensitivity is desired.

GASP® Surface Stress Polarimeter

Strainoptics' GASP® Polarimeter is a portable instrument for measuring surface stress in heat-strengthened and tempered glass. It can also be used to confirm stress-relief in annealed glass and to validate furnace settings for manufacturers of safety glass. The standard GASP model is for flat or slightly curved surfaces, while the GASP-CS version is designed to accommodate a curvature greater than 8 inches (200 mm). Both models may be ordered with either a laser or fiberoptic light source. The laser model features a rechargeable battery pack and offers the broadest range of measurement, up to 25,000 psi (180 MPa).

Strainoptics’ GASP® polarimeters are:

Easy to operate
Compliant with all industry specifications, including ASTM C1048, C1279 and the new compulsory
EN-12150 and EN-1863 standards and CE marking requirements for testing mechanical strength in architectural glass
 For in-plant or field use
Available for flat or curved surfaces
 Ideal for solar glass applications

PS-100 Polarimeter Systems

Strainoptics’ PS-100 Polarimeter System is a modular system, available in a variety of sizes and configurations. The systems described below are our most popular packages. Contact us if you are uncertain which package is the best choice for your application.

PS-100-SF Standard Field Polarimeter - General-purpose desktop system, with a 200 x 200 mm viewing area. Includes a circular/plane polarized illuminator and analyzer. Precision measurement of retardation, birefringence, orientation, stress or strain can be achieved in accordance with widely accepted test methods.

PS-100-MW Polarimeter - Supplied with a 75mm high-intensity light source, a microscope, and a measuring wedge assembly. Often used to evaluate surface compression and mid-plane tension in a glass slice. Video zoom systems for high-magnification, depth of compression layer, and defect detection are also available (PS-100-DWC-HS).

PS-100-VIDEO Polarimeters - Feature analog or digital CCD color video cameras with macrovideo zoom lenses, high-intensity light sources, measuring wedge assemblies, and 19" color LCD monitor or PC outputs.

PS-100-1011 Large Field Polarimeter - Tripod-mounted analyzer for horizontal viewing of larger samples; features a 250 x 280 mm viewing area. Ideal for automotive glass and container glass applications.
