Wire mesh glass

Wire mesh glass is a flat glass, which is produced by continuous casting or rolling. A braided steel wire, welded at all intersections, is inserted.

The production of wire glass takes place in the rolling process, whereas the glass melt is formed between two counter-rotating, water-cooled steel rolls into an endless flat glass ribbon. The insertion of the wire is done via a special feed directly before shaping the glass.

The wire connects the resulting fragments in the event of glass breakage. This minimizes the risk of injury. In addition, the broken wire glass has a certain residual carrying strength. Due to the different thermal expansion behavior of the glass wire, and it is prone to large temperature variation. Since the wire insert is a potential source of error, the strength is reduced compared with conventional float glass, but offers additional protection in the event of fire.

Wired glass is utilized for its fire-resistant abilities, and is well-rated to withstand both heat and hose streams. This is why wired glass exclusively is used on service elevators to prevent fire ingress to the shaft. The wire prevents the glass from falling out of the frame even if it cracks under thermal stress, and is far more heat-resistant than a laminating material.

Patterned Glass

Cast and rolled glass is called patterned glass (cast glass), which is produced utilising the rolling process, and is predominantly used indoors. Unlike float glass patterned glass is not transparent and flat, but translucent, and has a more or less structured surface, which stems from  the production process, whereas the liquid glass is led  at 1200 ° C through structured rollers, whose pattern then reflects in the glass. This way a more or less transparent, but always a translucent glass is manufactured. Depending on the type of roller it is possible to create waves, ribs, prisms and other stamping molds in the glass surface, which cause light scattering, wherein the density of the patterns produce different visibility factors. Accordingly, it is put to use where light should get inside, but privacy is desired, such as in bathrooms, shower cubicles, doors, parapets, or even as a screen within offices. Patterned glass can be coated in various ways and refined same as float glass(eg Tempered, Safety, enameling).

Low Iron Glass

Diffuse glass for greenhouses

Light is not evenly distributed in glass greenhouses, but this can be improved with diffuse light. Modern greenhouse coverings are able to transform most of the light entering the greenhouse into diffuse light.

Diffusion usually implies a loss of overall transmission but this drawback can be avoided by antireflection coatings so that diffusive glass covers have the same transmission as standard glass. The diffuse anti reflection coated greenhouse glass cover makes the light incidence inside the greenhouse less erratic with less moments of extreme high and extreme low values.
The diffuse glass greenhouse cover with Anti Reflection coating on both sides of the glass has a positive influence on production. When comparing clear glass greenhouses with diffuse glass, it shows an increase in production of approximately 6%.

Glasscommerce manufactures three types of diffuse glass, namely low, medium and high haze, all of which can be tempered and treated with antireflective coating at the factory.
