The NSG Group rolls out second edition of Glass in Architecture

NSG Group will roll out the second edition of its prestigious Glass in Architecture book at this year’s Glasstec trade fair in Dusseldorf on 20th – 23rd September 2016.

The book, originally launched in 2011, showcases some of the most prestigious architectural projects around the world, from public buildings to private homes. It is inspired by the most creative uses of glass in buildings today and focuses on those where architects have combined functionality and sustainability with design.

All of the projects in this edition are unique. They range from a McDonald’s pavilion in the heart of Rotterdam, where the architect used glass to blend the inside and outside of the building, to a viewing platform at ‘Le Pas dans le Vide’ in the French Alps. Here, the frameless glazing of its glass box ensures nothing distracts the viewer from the breath-taking landscape.

Glass in Architecture also features a number of public spaces, where glass has been used to create welcoming environments for visitors. From the Stonehenge Visitor Centre in the UK, to the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Poland. In each situation, the glass incorporated into the architect’s design serves a variety of functions that help to enhance the aesthetics of the building, as well as its overall sustainable performance.

Jolanta Lessig, European Marketing Communications Manager at NSG Group, said: “Architects from all over the world continue to incorporate glass into their designs. This book is a reflection of their work and with projects ranging from commercial offices to private homes and public libraries, it’s clear the potential of glass in the built environment is endless.”

“We hope Glass in Architecture will serve as a reminder how one of the most fascinating materials of the 21st century can be used in modern-day architecture.”

The NSG Group and Solaria announce collaboration

NSG Group, the owner of the Pilkington brand, and one of the world’s largest glass producers, and Solaria, specialists in PV technology, are entering into a collaboration agreement to manufacture and produce (semi) transparent Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) solutions.

NSG Group chose to collaborate with Solaria due to the company’s robust BIPV technology and manufacturing processes that combine attractive aesthetics, compelling economics, high energy efficiency and design flexibility.

NSG Group has significant experience in high efficiency architectural glass solutions and is now extending its product line into BIPV, incorporating Solaria’s PowerView™ technologies as part of an OEM relationship.

Establishing a BIPV supply chain signifies that BIPV is commercially ready for mainstream adaptation. The next level will see BIPV being integrated into IGU and glass products for building facades.

The first Pilkington branded glass products powered-by-Solaria include architectural glass with unified vision, effective daylighting, glare control, improved thermal performance and energy generation.

From now on building and construction decision makers will have an access to innovative solutions as part of the Pilkington product range, such as insulating glass units which are widely used in building (glass) facades.

NSG Group will collaborate further with Solaria to ensure the highest performance, quality and reliability of additional products including active frit solutions, attractive high power density spandrel glass, and a bifacial solar solution.

This full line of solar solutions will provide architects with BIPV products that can seamlessly replace traditional glass products to enable developers aim for net zero energy and unlock the power generating potential of buildings.

NSG Group will launch the first products in Europe with plans to expand markets to include the Middle East and beyond.

The NSG Group to Exhibit at Glasstec 2016, Dusseldorf

The NSG Group, who manufactures glass under the Pilkington brand, will be exhibiting its latest innovations at the world’s leading trade fair for the glass industry, Glasstec 2016, in Dusseldorf between 20th – 23rd September 2016.

Visitors to the stand (Hall 10, D34) will be able to explore the recently introduced value added products and innovative solutions suitable for a wide range of architectural projects, whatever their particular challenges and budget.

Headlining the stand will be a window unit containing Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) that allows a building to generate energy as an environmentally friendly alternative to the traditional energy sources. We will also be showcasing a new switchable glass that turns from opaque to transparent in an instant which is an ideal privacy solution.

The NSG Group will also unveil its new digital display mirror products and a special chromium based mirror, which is resistant to both corrosion and humidity. Coated with a highly reflective mirror coating, Pilkington MirroView™ and Pilkington MirroView™ 50/50 products are ideal for concealing digital displays and video screens when they are turned ‘off’. When the display is turned ‘on’, the glass allows the display to show through. Pilkington Mirropane™ Chrome is a very versatile chromium based mirror that can be used in a variety of interior and decorative applications such as bathrooms, hotel lobbies, health clubs or gyms, as well as façade panels, or in technical applications such as commercial refrigeration and lighting systems etc.

In addition, the company will showcase Pilkington OptiView™ a new anti-reflective glass which offers many benefits including high light transmission, low reflection and UV blocking. Suitable in a wide range of traditional and new anti-reflective applications, in which clarity of view and a neutral colour is of paramount importance, such as display cases, retail shop fronts, showrooms, sports stadiums, cabinets or outdoor digital signage.

Visitors to the stand will also have the opportunity to find out more about the full product range presented in a new on-line Global Product Directory.

The NSG Group team at Glasstec is looking forward to meeting all customers and visitors who would like to know more about how Pilkington glass solutions can help them.
