Functional nano coating with PlasmaPlus®

Nanocoatings applied with the PlasmaPlus® atmospheric coating process give a glass surface conductive, anti-reflective and adhesion-promoting properties. The environmentally friendly in-line technology can be applied to selected areas or to the entire surface. Different visual qualities can be achieved by varying composition and layer thickness. On solar modules, PlasmaPlus® can minimize light reflection and increase light transmittance by approx. 2.5%, and so make more efficient use of the available energy. This effect is produced by applying a nano-fine organosilicon layer to the surface with the plasma. The PlasmaPlus® coating significantly strengthens the adhesive bond between the composite materials in glass-to-glass or glass-to-Tedlar modules. The plasma polymer layer greatly reduces the risk of delamination, thereby significantly extending the service life of the module.

Printing with PlasmaPlus®

Printing on glass places tough demands on printing inks. To meet environmental standards, we are increasingly moving towards non-toxic, solvent-free, water-based ink systems, which frequently give rise to adhesion problems. The combination of Openair plasma® and PlasmaPlus® significantly enhances the adhesive characteristics, making the use of water-based and UV-based inks unproblematic. Furthermore, contour sharpness, long-time stability and color intensity of the overall print quality are greatly improved.

Bonding with Openair® Plasma

 An effective pretreatment is essential to ensure reliable and long-time stable adhesion of facade glazing and glass-to-glass or glass-to-plastic compounds. Openair® plasma technology is an in-line process compatible with robotic applications for cleaning and activating material surfaces to the highest degree. Treatment with atmospheric pressure plasma has no adverse effect on the surface.

The combination of an area-selective cleaning of the glass surface with Openair® plasma and a subsequent adhesion-promoting PlasmaPlus® coating significantly reduces the risk of moisture migration within the adhesive joint. The process is environmentally friendly. Openair® plasma technology completely dispenses with the need for cleaning, priming and drying processes, reduces the number of process steps and cuts down on operating costs.

Plasma and glass

With glass processing the use of these Plasmatreat technologies ranges from windshield direct-glazing, treatment of windows, shower glass-walls, solar panels, perfume flacons and many more to float glass nano-coating in the printing sector. For UV-digital printing on glass Openair® plasma and PlasmaPlus® ensure a longtime stable ink adhesion as well as a perfect color quality. In any such application plasma treatment replaces the use of solvent based, VOC emitting cleaners and primers.
