The two-day conference »engineered transparency« 21st and 22nd of October 2014 at CCD South of Messe Düsseldorf exhibition centre presents latest developments and research on architectural and structural use of glass, facade engineering and solar technology. The conference, which takes place parallel to glasstec, will address two mayor topics:
The first day of the conference focuses on novel timber-glass composites as load bearing elements in the building envelope with 11 lectures from a scientific background. New fields of application open up for the sustainable material wood in structural connection with glass. Notable researchers from Linnaeus University Växjö (Sweden), University of Maribor (Slovenia), Vienna University of Technology (Austria) and Escuela Arquitectura Santiago de Chile (Chile) will present current results. Cooperate industry partners will contribute to the topic as well.
During the second day, October 22nd, structural and architectural design of structural glazing are picked out as a central theme. The subject reaches from impressive presentation of current projects such as a glazed elevator shaft for the mauritshuis (Mick Eeckhout, TU Delft), current developments in silicone adhesives (Florian Doebbel, Sika) up to research results which discuss for example the impact of spacer systems on curved units under climatic loads (Frank Wellershoff, HCU Hamburg).
