Foam glass modules
Foamglass is stable foam completely made of glass. It can be made from industrial waste material and shows favourable properties regarding thermal and sound insulation, chemical resistance and mechanical stability. The professorship of glass and enamel technology of the Technical University Freiberg is developing new applications of this material, like units for water warming and sea water desalination. The project about units for water warming concentrates on the thermal use of solar energy. The advantage of using foamglass for this application is the very high solar absorption of the material. The modules are characterized by their resource-saving and low-cost production, durability and easy recyclability.
