Poco Graphite, Inc. An Entegris Company

Golden Year for Poco Graphite

Poco Graphite 50 Years

Poco Graphite is celebrating 50 years in the graphite business.

Man's desire to explore space and safely return led to the development of specialty materials that could withstand high temperatures during reentry. One of these materials in the race to conquer space was specialty graphite developed by a Texas based aerospace company. This material breakthrough was so unique that technology was acquired by Pure Oil Company in 1964 for further commercialization.

The graphite division became known as POCO, an acronym for the new owner. POCO's specialty graphite’s have subsequently been utilized in a variety of applications and markets and its materials portfolio has increased to include a family of graphites, silicon carbides, high temperature materials and a wide variety of post processes and machining capabilities.

POCO’s main facility is in Decatur, Texas. The location has expanded multiple times over the years, and now utilizes more than 350,000 sqft and employs over 250 people.

Today POCO is part of Entegris, Inc., a world leader in Semiconductor and adjacent market product solutions.

POCO products are produced for the following major markets: Semiconductor, aerospace, energy storage, biomedical, optics, hot glass handling and electrical discharge machining (EDM). As a producer of highly technical materials, POCO offers exceptional customer support, including specific application information, design capability, and materials testing.

Poco Graphite is ISO 9001:2008 and AS9100:2009 certified.

POCO plans to celebrate this milestone with an open house in the fall.
