PTA (Plasma transferred arc) HARDFACING ON GLASSWARE MOLDS AND EQUIPMENT Plasma Transferred Arc Process is used to fuse a metallic coating to a substrate in order to improve its resistance against wear and/or corrosion. During the process, metal powder is fed into a molten weld puddle (fusion bath) generated by the plasma arc at high temperature. Generally the PTA welding applied on 2 parts Press Molds ( Split Molds) and Stem Molds at the mold profile edges in order to eliminate wear and increase the mold life time. Also the PTA welding applicable to Plungers made out of AISI 431 SS material as a “band welding”. For Glass molds; the glass mold material (AISI 431 SS) coated with high nickel powders. Hardness of the coated areas increased up to 38-42 Hrc, where the base mold material hardness is 32-34 Hrc. At Merkad PTA Welding application made by using the latest-technology PTA Welding Machine and Nickel powders from famous Satellite Company, which has excellent recognition and reputation around the world.
