New developments in glass finishing offer forward-looking solutions for modern architecture – as does the recent innovation by arcon: arconnect®, a coating specifically developed to improve mobile connectivity in buildings.
Modern thermal insulation glazing can shield off mobile phone signals resulting in disturbed telephony in interiors. arcon has solved this problem together with the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) by developing a novel coating: a selective texturing of the glass surface retains the insulating effect while noticeably increasing the permeability of mobile radio frequencies – including 5G.
“Even with the higher frequencies of the 5G standard the coating makes for optimal data reception that enables real-time applications,” says Hermann Dehner, product manager at arcon.
The coating is durable and maintenance-free. What’s more, existing window structures can easily be retrofitted, constituting a more sustainable alternative.
The glass sector is constantly developing further – innovations such as arconnect® flag up the impulses the next glasstec can provide. Those wishing to gather information on the future of glass processing and finishing will meet the industry’s leading enterprises and their latest developments at glasstec 2026 from 20 to 23 October 2026.
