SOLARBAN® 72 STARPHIRE® glass by PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG)has been selected by readers of USGlass magazine as a 2013 Product of the Year.
Designed for exceptional clarity and solar control, insulating glass units (IGUs) made with Solarban 72 Starphire glass feature one lite of uncoated Starphire glass and another with a triple-silver coating engineered specifically for application on a Starphire glass substrate.
In a 1-inch IGU, Solarban 72 Starphire glass has visible light transmittance (VLT) of 71 percent and a solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) of 0.30, producing a light-to-solar-gain (LSG) ratio of 2.38. That represents a 25 percent improvement in SHGC compared to Solarban 60 Starphire glass and an 11 percent improvement in VLT compared to Solarban70XL glass.
USGlass magazine selects annual Product of the Year Awards based on a reader survey that includes all products from the USGlass Showcase section and Annual New Products Guide.
