Slovenian glass manufacturer Steklarna Hrastnik has won a supplier award for its work with the UK supermarket Sainsburys.

It was awarded the Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit and Supplier Qualification Programme for its work with Sainsburys with the highest possible rating.

The result meant it also received the Best Supplier Award for the UK market for tableware.

The audit was performed by Intertek in May this year. The audit carried out a thorough review of its production and manufacturing processes and the quality of Steklarna Hrastnik’s products.

Those products without décor endure 3,000 washes in an industrial washing machine without scratches and those with décor manage 1,500 washes without loss of colour or scratches.

The audit also checked how the company cares for the environment as well as health and safety and fire safety at work, as Sainsburys wants to make sure its suppliers do business ethically and in accordance with the law.
