Wall Colmonoy Limited (UK) Celebrates 45 Years in Wales

WCL Building

Wall Colmonoy Limited located in Pontardawe, Wales, celebrates 45 years of business. Wall Colmonoy manufactures surfacing and brazing products, castings, and engineered components for aerospace, automotive, oil & gas, mining, energy and other industrial sectors.

In 1969, the business that was then located in Brackley England (since 1952), conducted a search for a larger site to accommodate its growth. The Welsh government approached Group Chairman, W.P. Clark Sr., with an offer of a building and land near the town of Pontardawe, Wales. Most attractive to Mr. Clark was the 200-year metallurgical history of the region, the readily available skilled workforce, source of highly qualified graduates from the local universities, and the close proximity to a major metal supplier, Inco, in Clydach.

Over the 45 years, the facility has grown from 33,000 to 70,000ft2. During this time, Wall Colmonoy has added capacity, the latest equipment in a state-of-the-art chemistry and R&D laboratory, and advanced processes. It has implemented “Lean” manufacturing initiatives – increasing its product range, improved quality, production efficiency and time to market.

In 2012, Wall Colmonoy opened a 23,500ft2 advanced machine shop to support its casting manufacturing facility, offering customers a wide range of finished machined components. The components division manufactures a diverse range of components from nickel, cobalt and iron-based alloys castings

Bill Clark, Chairman and CEO, states, “We are proud of our 45 year commitment to Wales and to the employees working at the facility. We are most appreciative of the continued support we receive from the Welsh Assembly Government and to our dedicated employees.”

“I am very proud to be part of the family business with its long-standing and proud history. I wish to build upon the extraordinary accomplishments of the past,” expressed Nicholas Clark, Deputy Managing Director, UK. “Meeting our customers’ demands for high quality metallurgical products and services will permit us to maintain our position as a world class company.”

Wall Colmonoy maintains quality approvals meeting the high standards of the aerospace industry. Its quality management system is accredited to ISO9001 and AS9100 and many customer specific approvals. Special Process approvals are held within Nadcap (National Aerospace and Defence Contractors Program) for Brazing, Heat Treating and Welding. The facility is also registered to the Environmental Standard, ISO 14001.
