Aspherical lenses improve precision and intensity in the illumination of microscopes
The technology group SCHOTT unconventionally relies on aspherical lenses to increase the effect of LED cold light sources in the illumination of stereomicroscopes in the area of Lighting and Imaging. This delights the experts in laboratories who can now perform microscopy more precisely.
“We constantly check whether we can do something better. And we have done the right thing by coming up with the idea of using aspherical glass lenses to optimize LEDs with our entire range of services for cold light sources,” explains Dr. Werner Sklarek, Innovation and Product Manager at SCHOTT Lighting and Imaging.
A cover lens made of optical glass with aspheres that is specially adapted to suit the LEDs used ensures that the LED light fits into the fiber optic light guide from SCHOTT properly. Significantly higher homogeneity and intensity where the light is emitted are guaranteed due to the increased efficiency of coupling the light. This, in turn, means for example that laboratory technicians can view their respective samples better. After all, hidden details can only be seen, specific areas distinguished between and particular characteristics highlighted when the best light is available. SCHOTT also manufactures the aspherical lenses.
