The Glass Research Group at TU Delft focuses on novel glass solutions for buildings, bridges and other structures. The primary themes that are currently addressed are: cast glass elements to compose structures, thin glass structures, glass columns and composite components that consist of a combination of glass and another material. The overarching goal is to develop safe, and at the same time, sustainable glass structures. This means that next to the investigations into the structural performance of glass structures, the possibilities of recycling and re-use of glass components are thoroughly addressed. The latter is of increasing importance within the current quest for a circular society.
The Façade Research Group at TU Delft focuses on facade technology as part of the integrated building system, refurbishment strategies and systems, material technologies for facades and additive manufacturing for the building envelope. The group, located at the chair Design of Construction acts as a team of 8-12 PhD´s, concentrating on exploring future possibilities for the building envelope. The group is linked to an academic network like the European Façade Network (EFN), the COST Action 1403 Adaptive Façade Network and several individual cooperation’s with universities. Next to the academic environment, industry is a strong partner in development and research-projects.
