Ecopure® CCF

The novel multi-pollutant air pollution control technology combines DeDust, DeSOx and DeNOx processes in a single catalyst coated candle filter system - the Catalytic Candle Filter (CCF).

The Ecopure® CCF system enables the simultaneous control of dust, heavy metals, oxides of sulphur (SOx), acid gases (HCl, HF) and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) in one unit at temperatures up to 380°C.

Advantages of the Ecopure® CCF include the small foot print, high reduction efficiency as well as increased efficiency due to the higher maximum operating temperature - up to 380°C. Besides the 3-in-1 advantage, the air pollution control system allows for  maintenance during operation. This increases the availability of the system.  As such, the system offers a cost-effective alternative for the control of multiple pollutants from thermal processes.

Ecopure® SCR

Ecopure® SCR technologies are used for the catalytic reduction of NOx in combination with a reduction agent. NOx is converted on the catalyst surface to hydrogen and water. 

Dürr System’s technical expertise to handle NOx abatement as a stand alone or include VOCs and HAPs into the process.

NOx abatement systems can be retrofitted into existing processes as an economical way to meet tighter emissions regulations (tailpipe systems) or designed into greenfield facilities as an integral part of the process. 

Dürr has the management ability to handle the entire NOx abatement project in a turnkey fashion from conceptual design through installation and start-up.

Ecopure® RTO

The regenerative thermal oxidizer from type Ecopure® RTO are characterized by a cost optimized, a standardised and a low maintenance design. The most modern process technology of the Ecopure® RTO allows an economic disposal of solvent-containing and offensive odour exhaust air with a efficiency of over 99,8%. Due to different design options the Ecopure® RTO is insertable universal.

The patented air routing with tightly sealed, low-maintenance stainless steel disc valve guaranteed the best possible heat exchange flow at minimal area requirements and greatest ease of maintenance.

Because of the intelligent RTO design it is possible to modularly expand the quantity of heat exchangers for a better capacity management.

Dürr forms a leading supplier of industrial environmental technology

Bietigheim-Bissingen, June 6, 2018 – Dürr is forming a leading supplier of environmental technology systems for industrial exhaust-air purification, following a corporate acquisition in the United States. The Group is acquiring the industrial environmental technology business of Babcock & Wilcox Enterprises, Inc. (B&W). "Through this acquisition, we are establishing a leading company with sales of around € 400 million and the broadest technology and service range in the market. The global setup of the new unit provides an excellent basis for growth in the coming years", says Dr. Jochen Weyrauch, responsible for paint shop and environmental technology business as well as M&A on the Dürr AG Board of Management.

The purchase agreement, which was signed today, comprises the acquisition of the three B&W subsidiaries, Babcock & Wilcox MEGTEC LLC, Babcock & Wilcox MEGTEC Holdings Inc. and Babcock & Wilcox Universal Inc. The purchase price will be calculated based on the enterprise value of the three companies, which amounts to around € 110 million. Closing is expected in the third quarter of 2018. It is subject to the satisfaction of usual antitrust closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
 
Business in exhaust-air purification technology for industrial processes has good growth prospects. Demand in emerging markets like China is growing, as increasingly strict emission levels are being introduced to protect the environment. In 2017, as much as 53 % of Dürr's incoming orders in environmental technology were generated in the emerging markets, with China accounting for 34 %. In the established markets, in particular, service business is becoming increasingly important.

B&W's industrial environmental technology business consists of the MEGTEC and Universal segments, headquartered in De Pere and Stoughton in the US state of Wisconsin. Dürr expects the two segments, which have a workforce of almost 900 employees, to achieve combined sales of around € 200 million in 2018. MEGTEC, the larger segment, offers mainly exhaust-air purification systems e.g. for volatile organic compounds (VOC), particles and other airborne emissions from industrial processes. Its technology portfolio includes oxidation systems, electrostatic filters and systems for solvent recovery and distillation. MEGTEC also offers industrial dryers and coating systems for lithium-ion-battery electrodes. Universal is a leading supplier of acoustic solutions, specializing in sound insulation systems and air filters, e.g. for gas turbines.

Complementary technologies
MEGTEC and Universal complement Dürr's exhaust-air purification technology business perfectly. While Dürr supplies mainly to the chemical, pharmaceutical and automotive industries, MEGTEC is a leading supplier to the packaging, printing, energy-generation and timber industries. Furthermore, MEGTEC adds interesting, complementary technologies to Dürr's existing range. These include wet electrostatic precipitators, which are used in the mining and timber sectors, among others.

The merger will create a group with sales of around € 400 million, 1,500 employees and three well-established brands. Through the acquisition Dürr will acquire sites in major market regions and be able to provide comprehensive customer support in established and emerging markets.

Service business potential
"The new group will benefit from economies of scales, have global reach and be well positioned to offer its customers all exhaust-air purification technologies from a single source", says Dr. Daniel Schmitt, who will be in charge of the joint environmental technology business of Dürr, MEGTEC and Universal, summarizing the benefits. In addition, synergy effects are expected to create cost savings, not only in procurement, but also through product standardization.

There is also great potential in the attractive service business. "MEGTEC, in particular, has an extensive service network. We plan to use this to provide optimal customer support through tailored service concepts", adds Dr. Daniel Schmitt. 
 
Dürr wants to increase sales in environmental technology business to up to € 500 million by 2021, targeting an EBIT margin of 6 to 7 %. As a result, the smallest Dürr segment to date is catching up with the other Dürr divisions in terms of business volume and earnings. In 2017, Dürr's environmental technology division, Clean Technology Systems, had 600 employees and achieved sales of € 185 million.

Dürr's new multi-pollutant air pollution technology wins the Bluetech Award

Ecopure® CCF removes three pollutants from exhaust air simultaneous

Bietigheim-Bissingen, February 22st, 2018 – The Ecopure® CCF from Dürr is a combination technology that simultaneously filters dust, sulfur dioxides, and nitrogen oxides from exhaust air. Three individual processes are combined into one system for this to occur. The compact design of the Ecopure® CCF means that even existing industrial plants with limited space can be retrofitted. The Clean Air Alliance of China has presented Dürr the Bluetech Award for this technology, which recognizes high standards in air pollution control.

For the last three years, the Clean Air Alliance of China (CAAC) has been giving awards to international emission reduction methods which can be used to improve air quality in China. Above all, the Alliance assesses real measurement results, the environmental benefits, the technological contribution, and the financial sustainability of the technology. There were 63 applications from 13 countries for the latest Bluetech Award. Dürr received the coveted award for its newly developed Ecopure® CCF technology.

The Ecopure® CCF can help to reduce air pollution in all energy-intensive industries with high levels of pollutant emissions, such as glass making or the use of coal-fired boilers for electricity generation. The heart of Dürr’s new technology is the Catalytic Candle Filters (CCF). The catalytically coated filter candles, which can withstand temperatures of up to 716°F, simultaneously remove dust, sulfur dioxides (SOx), and nitrogen dioxides (NOx) from the exhaust air.

This method makes it possible to achieve clean gas values up to 50% below the current Chinese emission limits. This gives leeway for tighter limit values in the future and today makes it possible to continue production without restrictions even when there is “Level 1 Alarm” in effect, the strongest warning level for polluted air in China. The manufacturing processes do not have to be interrupted even during service work on the filters, since their modular design means that they can be individually shut off. During maintenance, the exhaust air of the module to be serviced can be easily distributed to the other modules. 

The Ecopure® CCF is already proving its performance in practice in China. Glass producer Libbey is the first manufacturer to use the new exhaust air purification technology in its plant in Beijing.

New 3-in-1 combined process from Dürr for exhaust air purification

Ecopure® CCF is efficient and space-saving

Bietigheim-Bissingen/Germany, October 19, 2016 – Dürr first deployed the Ecopure® CCF, a newly developed combined DeDust, DeSOx and DeNOx process, for a Chinese company. It enables the glassware manufacturer to reliably comply with low emission limits. Another strength of this space-saving technology is its suitability both for new installations and retrofits. Due to TA-Luft 2017 – the new air pollution control regulations – this technology is also of particular interest to industrial enterprises in Germany.

With Ecopure® CCF technology, three pollutants are eliminated in one system, which translates into economic total cost of ownership.

As DeDust, DeSOx and DeNOx processes are combined in just one unit; the setup is very compact and allows space-saving installation within existing production facilities.

The high efficiency of the individual processes delivers maximum separation efficiencies for all types of pollutants, meeting the latest requirements of the forthcoming TA-Luft 2017 regulations particularly in respect of dust, sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides. Integrating the three individual processes into the Ecopure® CCF system means lower maintenance costs and reduced space requirements, which results in lower operating costs.

The 3-in-1 technology has been well received, especially in overseas markets, and now it has been included in the official draft of the VDI 2578 standard in Germany.
