ELKA Elastic Applications

ELKA-Elastic grinding tools are abrasive wheels bonded with elastic reaction resins, primarily from the PUR and EP product groups.

Aluminium oxide and silicon carbide are used as abrasive grains. In specific applications, diamond grains are also used.
As resins are highly versatile, tools with a Shore hardness of A 30 (approximately the hardness of mattress foam) to D 95 (hardness of electro casting resin) are used. This special type of bonding allows the grain to oscillate, which in turn leads to gentle contact with the material to be ground. As a result, the removal rate is low, but a technically perfect surface is generated.

ELKA-Elastic tools are produced in all common geometries and dimensions. Currently, the smallest wheels measure Ø 22 mm and the largest Ø 1,200 mm.
Like the dimensions, the application portfolio covers the entire range of finishing processes for all metals and alloys.

The circumferential speed range is adapted to the hardness of the wheel and lies in a range of 10m/sec. – 50m/sec.
ELKA-Elastic tools are designed in such a way that they may be used with all commercially available machines. Only the speed needs to be considered.

We make a basic distinction between 2 work methods:
Grinding by hand or using a manual tool (application examples)
Use of grinding and polishing machines of all types (application examples)

ELKA Sparkle – The Effective Abrasive Cleaner

Ideal for grinding, descaling limescale and rust, and deburring

Instructions for Use
The abrasive cleaner lies comfortably in your hand and does not require a special holder. Elka Sparkle consists of a special plastic which is evenly interspersed with an abrasive. You can work on all objects and materials with optimum pressure to achieve a perfectly consistent finished surface.
For areas that are difficult to reach, e.g. corners, curves or profiles, you can simply cut Elka Sparkle to the desired shape with a knife or cut it into several pieces. This in no way impairs its outstanding quality.

Extreme stains and scaling as well as limescale and rust deposits may be more easily removed by now and then immersing Elka Sparkle into cold water while working. Elka Sparkle is water-resistant and oil-resistant, does not lose its shape, does not swell and dries again quickly.
Should your Elka Sparkle become dirty, simply rinse it briefly under clear water.

Please note: Elka Sparkle should not be used on smooth, sensitive surfaces. This abrasive cleaner is also neither suitable for gold, silver or chromium, nor for gold-plated, silver-plated, chromium plated and highly glossy surfaces.
Always test Elka Sparkle on an inconspicuous area first, as it works highly effectively.

ELKA Vitro

Elka Vitro glass polishing wheels have matured into leading edge products.
The E300 series scored particularly well in Italy, the home of glass polishing.
Comprehensive tests resulted in the best practice wheel combinations shown in the table (coming soon).
These recommendations were tested largely at machine dealers and thus represent a sound basis.

We make a distinction in practice between single- and double-sided polishing machines.
Single sided:
In single-sided polishing, the glass, which is usually in a vertical position, is held between 2 rubber chains and transported across the polishing wheels. These wheels come into contact on one side with the glass pane. The process is carried out with water cooling.

Depending on the machine, there are 1 to 4 polishing stations which are equipped with different tools (see Table (Table coming soon)).
Souble-sided:
Double-sided grinding machines are mostly arranged in one angle combination and are used for larger volumes, e.g. in the furniture industry, in façade construction and for solar technology, etc.

The grinding pressure can be minimised using this machine type in contrast to single-sided machines. However, even in single-sided machines, the pressure required by ELKA polishing wheels can also be reduced compared to competing tools on the market. In general, 80% of ELKA Vitro applications require around 50-60% of the pressure of that used by competitive tools.
