High Temperature Observation of Glass Melting Process

We provide High Temperature Observation (HTO) of processes in molten glass:
Visual observation of processes in molten glass in connection with computer Image Analysis
Quantitative evaluation of phenomena in communication with Image Analysis
Data and gas property measurements for the mathematical models of bubble behavior
and model verifications
Typical HTO tests are focused mainly on:
Refractory tests – comparison of different materials for glass contact
Refining tests – optimization of batch composition or comparison of different batches
Fining tests – at different pressures or with introduction of various gases to the atmosphere
Bubble growth/shrinking tests – at different temperature and times through the melting process
… and many other specialized tests based on customer requirements

Redox Measurement GS Rapidox II™

Measuring REDOX state in glass melts, introduced by GS in 2005, helps to better understand fining of glass, and glass color in particular.
We measure the REDOX reaction equilibrium – direct p(O2) measurement of:
iron
antimony
cerium
chromium
sulphur
whereas the measurements are fully automatic and computerized.

Glass Defects Analyses

GS offers analyses of defects in glass & bubble source studies, which include:
Defect analysis – bubbles & stones, cords and others such as gall, knots, surface defects
Bubble source identification procedure
Classification of the sources according to mechanism of bubble generation
Bubble features and estimated composition in the product -> identification

Our laboratory is equipped with latest technology including three Mass Spectrometers, SEM/EDX microprobe, various optical microscopes, stress measurement device and very precise sample preparation equipment to address any melting, refining and forming defect problem in any kind of glass product.
It is the biggest world independent laboratory for glass defects.
