Johnson Matthey has many years’ experience in the development and manufacture of glass enamels for automotive applications – and keeping ahead of the latest technical and environmental requirements is key to our product innovation.

We have an extensive black obscuration enamel product portfolio, which we’ve developed in response to customer demand and the many industry methods of glass heating and forming currently in use.

We continually seek to push boundaries in product development, targeting more efficient firing and robust processing.

Following the successful launch of 1L7210 at glasstec 2016 we have continued to focus on product development of laminating products and have exciting new black and silver products for 2018.

Technical Glass Materials

Johnson Matthey formulates and manufactures high purity technical glasses.

We can toll manufacture to customer specification or consultation to co-develop glass to specific customer needs.
Glasses can be supplied as frit, powder or paste.

Using a range of state-of-the-art melting technologies we typically supply glass for order quantities in the range 1.0Kg - 50MT. We have the ability to handle heavy metal oxides as well as process heavy metal free formulations within close tolerances.

Our grinding technologies, wet or dry, are capable of producing material to a custom particle size and distribution and we have a range of drying technologies which can be adopted depending on final product requirements.

We offer extensive pasting technologies and media systems which can be formulated for a specific application and substrate.

Johnson Matthey offers significant in-house analytical facilities to assist the glass development process and provide manufacturing and quality assurance support for all production batches, guaranteeing constant high product quality.

Advanced Coating Technology

Our ACT(TM) -  Advanced Coating Technology protects ceramics through a thin coating (200-500 µm) of platinum or 10% rhodium/platinum. Ideal for long runs and limited thermal cycling, they provide:

Protection at the glass line
Protection against corrosive vapour condensates
Complete corrosion resistance against the attack of any molten glass, including soda lime, crystal, borosilicate and opal
100% shape retention for the lifetime of the coating, allowing a stable forming process and reducing costs.
The flexible process allows the coating to be applied to complex shapes. The coating configuration and thickness can be tailored.
