Prium® Melt Oxy, oxy fired furnace
The production of thin ultra-clear glass for solar applications is a real challenge for melting furnaces. Conventional throat type tanks for achieve excellent transparency by a low iron redox but are limited in quality due to bubbles and seeds. Float tanks have a high level of glass quality but are limited in transparency by higher iron redox and have of course no pattern. Further key problems arise with the high transparency of the glass: high melt bottom temperatures limit the tank lifetime and the modified glass convection currents limit the pull rate. Fives' solution Based on its long experience in the design of float glass, glass furnace and oxy-combustion furnaces Fives has developed a proprietary tank design to address these problems. The new Prium® Melt Oxy furnace operates with a float type melt convection assuring high fining quality and has limited bottom temperatures even in the hot spot area. Pattern solar glass of high transparency is produced on a 200 tpd production line. However, the proprietary tank design allows significantly higher melting capacities up to 800tpd with either multiple roll glass machines or a tin bath forming proce.
