About us

Company details

The Glass & Transparency Research Group at TU Delft focuses on novel glass solutions for buildings, bridges and other structures. The overarching goal is to develop safe, and at the same time, sustainable glass structures. This means that next to the investigations into the structural performance of glass structures, the possibilities of recycling and re-use of glass components are thoroughly addressed.

With its work on the cast glass Crystal Houses façade the research group has received several awards such as International Award on outstanding Façade Innovation, the Dutch Design Public Award en Dutch Glass Innovation Award. The research group is now exploiting a similar concept for the construction of a Glass Masonry Bridge at the Green Village at the TU Delft campus.

Grasping the potential of the Crystal Houses façade, the Glass& Transparency Group has developed “Re3 Cube Glass” as a novel, reversible system comprising dry-assembled, interlocking cast glass components in respect to the waste hierarchy of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

Furthermore, within the international academic network on glass structures, the research group is involved in international initiatives such as the Glass Structures & Engineering journal and the international Challenging Glass Conference.
