SOLARBAN® SOLAR CONTROL, LOW-E

By nature, low-emissivity (low-e) glass is spectrally selective, meaning long and short wave radiation from the sun (ultraviolet and infrared radiation) are reduced while visible light is still allowed to transmit through the glass.  Solar control low-e glass allows you to specify larger spans of glass to maximize natural daylighting without sacrificing thermal efficiency.

For decades, Solarban® solar control, low-e glasses have set the standard for solar control performance in the architectural glass industry.  Whether choosing from our variety of double-silver, triple-silver, our quad-silver Solarban® 90, reflective, neutral, tinted, or ultra clear, Solarban® MSVD products give architects an almost limitless selection of aesthetic and environmental performance options.

Starphire Ultra-Clear® Glass

Starphire Ultra-Clear® Glass provides an unprecedented option for curtainwall glass applications, offering brilliant clarity and true-to-life views of the outdoors that conventional glass simply can’t match. Building designs that incorporate Starphire® glass have an unmistakably clear goal: to provide a signature element that seamlessly blends the structural and environmental surroundings together!
To maximize visible light transmission (VLT) and provide unfettered views of the world outdoors, Starphire® glass brings an uncommon brightness, clarity and color fidelity that no other commercial glazing product can match.
For vision glazings in which enhanced energy performance is required, Starphire® glass can be combined with other glass coatings to satisfy energy requirements while maintaining its unique ultra-clear visual character, free of the green cast inherent in ordinary clear float glass.
To boost VLT, combine Starphire Ultra-Clear® Glass with solar control low-e coatings, such as Solarban® 70XL, Solarban® 60 or Solarban® 67 glasses.  To increase the solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC), combine Starphire Ultra-Clear® Glass with passive solar coatings, such as Solarban R100 or Solarban z75/z50 glasses.
Starphire Ultra-Clear® Glass  maintains its remarkable clarity in a variety of thicknesses and can be used for a wide variety of interior and exterior commercial applications, including; building facades, storefronts, entrances, skylights, balustrades, interior partitions and decorative wall panels, spandrels, and showroom windows.

When beauty, clarity and functionality are the cornerstones of your design vision, accept no substitutes.  Choose Starphire Ultra-Clear® Glass ….the possibilities are endless!

Solarcool® & Vistacool® Reflective coated glasses

The Solarcool® family of reflective coated glass was introduced in 1972, and for more than 40 years, has enhanced the appearance of thousands of buildings and the comfort of millions of their inhabitants.
Solarcool® glasses can be glazed with the reflective coating positioned on either the first or second surface. The glass has improved performance and higher exterior visible-reflectivity with a metallic sheen when installed with the coating on the first surface. Combined in a one-inch insulating glass unit (IGU) with clear glass, Solarcool® glasses offer an expansive palette of appearance and performance options with solar heat gain coefficients (SHGCs) ranging from 0.34 to 0.14 and exterior reflectance of up to 37 percent.
When installed with the coating on the second surface, the glass has lower exterior visible reflectivity and maintains the substrate glass color. Combine Solarcool® glasses with Vitro Architectural Glass (formerly PPG Glass) tinted glasses, such as Solargray®, Solarbronze®, Solarblue®, Azuria® or Pacifica®, to produce an even greater range of aesthetic options.

An Understated, Subtly Reflective Appearance
Vistacool® subtly reflective color‑enriched glasses transmit generous levels of visible light and provide color neutrality, which amplifies and enriches the tint of the glass substrate underneath without a mirror‑like appearance. More understated than traditional reflective glass, Vistacool® glasses are available in two distinct tints—aqua-blue Azuria® and rich‑blue Pacifica®. Vistacool® glasses can be combined with Solarban® solar control low‑e glass or Sungate® 400 low‑e glass to achieve light‑to‑solar gain (LSG) ratios of as high as 1.66.

Solarban® Acuity™ glass wins “Best of Products” award from The Architect’s Newspaper

Affordable low-e, low-iron glass honored in Glass category of annual product awards
PITTSBURGH, Oct. 9, 2020 – Solarban® Acuity™ low-emissivity (low-e), low-iron glass by Vitro Architectural Glass (formerly PPG Glass) has been honored by The Architect’s Newspaper with a “Best of Products” award in the Glass category.

“Vitro gives designers another tool to show that they care for our environment,” said Jonathan Moody, chief executive officer, Moody Nolan architects, and a juror in this year’s awards. “It gives us the ability to push both high performance and aesthetic forward.”

The award was first announced on September 25 on archpaper.com, where the full list of winners is available. Each product category recognized one winner and two honorable mentions. The Architect’s Newspaper has also published a “Best of Products 2020” digital booklet; the publication’s December issue will feature the winners in print. The Solarban® Acuity™ low-e low-iron glass series was introduced in 2019 as an engineered system developed for exterior applications from office buildings and mixed-use vision glazing to entrances and storefronts. Combining the color fidelity of new, affordable Acuity™ low-iron glass with the performance of the Solarban® family of low-e glasses, this affordable glass system allows architects to realize more ambitious façades, on budget and on time.

“Vitro research made clear that architects really need an affordable, coated low-iron option,” said Nathan McKenna, marketing and innovation manager, Vitro Architectural Glass. “With Solarban® Acuity™ glass, we’ve achieved true low-iron clarity at a price point that is feasible for virtually any façade or vision glazing application.”

“We thank The Architect’s Newspaper and the jury for the recognition,” he added.

Vitro market research indicates the installed cost of a standard glass and metal curtainwall averages $90 per square foot nationally. Upgrading a low-e coated clear insulating glass unit (IGU) to a Solarban® Acuity™ glass unit typically will increase the total installed curtainwall cost by only $1 to $2 per square foot.

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 19, 2020 – Acuity™ low-iron glass by Vitro Architectural Glass was selected as an Editor’s Pick of Building Design + Construction (BD+C) magazine’s 101 Top Products of 2019.

Acuity™ glass, which is 60% less green than ordinary clear glass, is an affordable low-iron solution specifically engineered for vision glazings. To satisfy the current megatrend for more transparent facades, architects, designers and building owners want exceptionally clear, neutral glazings that can deliver crisper outdoor views—or render color from spandrel units with greater fidelity―than conventional clear glass can at a slight cost premium over clear glass, making it an affordable option for an entire building façade.

Acuity™ glass can be specified with Solarban® 60, Solarban® 72, Solarban® 90 and Solarban® R100 and Solarban® 67 solar control low-emissivity coatings for vision glazings or to enhance the energy performance of commercial buildings. Solarban® Acuity™ glasses are available in 6-, 8- and 10- millimeter thicknesses, and Acuity™ is also available in 6-millimeter thickness for monolithic spandrel glass applications where true-color rendition is necessary.

When paired in a standard 1-inch insulating glass unit with Solarban® glasses, Acuity™ glass can achieve visible light transmittance (VLT) of up to 73 percent and solar heat gain coefficients (SHGCs) ranging from 0.23 to 0.41.
